Strike

Couldn't find any definite information, although the Lonely Planet online forum made mention of a strike called off a few weeks ago which I guess is similar. There were taxis on the street when I went out earlier at least, so I hope to take one over to Valle de la Luna tomorrow (although I have slight doubts about how to get back).

The strike isn't as totally unreasonable as it might seem. Apparently the new drink-driving law only applies to 'public service' drivers, not private motorists, and the penalty for the first offence is loss of licence for life, both of which do seem grossly unfair if true.
