Wafflings

The old women favour bowler hats again here in La Paz, unlike Potosi, although the straw boater still has a following. Having bought a couple of things from them as street vendors, they have this disquieting and somewhat otherworldly slowness of movement. Makes me feel rather uncomfortable, I assume that's just how they are rather than because they are thinking 'fucking tourist', but who knows?

The average person on the street here would fit in a treat on Oxford St. Maybe they do it because of the altitude, although as locals I guess they have no excuse. Maybe if they were plonked down on Oxford St the rich air would act on them like a drug. I think the Oxford St contingent still holds my personal accolade for infuriatingly slow walking and pavement blocking, but it's a close-run thing.
