Buenos Aires, Wednesday

1252 Finally heading out. Listened to bit of music before going to bed last night. Snoozed on alarms from maybe 1030 to 1200 then got up. Didn't feel too bad, just didn't want to rush to get up, also lying in bed was a luxury to savour since have to check out by 10am tomorrow and next night is on bus. May go to some prison museum but not open til 1430 so may wander a bit first. Prison museum is in San Telmo, I seem to be spending a lot of time there, especially walking up and down Defensa and to a lesser extent Bolivar.

1434 Wandered up to Plaza de Congreso via backish street then down Av de Mayo to Plaza de Mayo. Now at cafe on Defensa en route to that prison museum but stopped off for coffee and empanadas (one chicken, one meat ie beef I think). Place is probably Esmeralda but not sure. Right next to light orange church.

1502 FFS. Waitress put bill on table ages ago (37ARS). I left a 50 on there. She has taken it and appears not to be going to give me any change. Is this because I somehow gave the wrong signal or is she trying it on? Fuck it, I might ask for change. Just asked, she is bringing it, maybe I was precipitate or maybe this is her fallback. Still, I wasn't rude so no matter.

Yeah, got change, made it 41 with tip.

1805 At Bar Britanico (sp) at window table looking out at Parque Lezama (sp). Had quick walk round there before coming in. Before that bought red pepper and two apples and a bottle of water to wash them with and ate them in street.

Prison museum free and quite interesting. Went to contemporary art museum next door to modern art museum after. That was 15 to get in. Very taken with 'Velocidad' by Fabian Burgos, the blurry effect of movement was quite strange, at times it felt like I was looking through a camera as it auto-focused. Also rather liked Symetria no. 16 by Veronica di Toro; it being so geometric, I thought it would be cool to write a program to recreate it, then I thought the parameters for the generation could be nudged randomly and the user gets to pick one (like Richard Dawkins' Blind Watchmaker). Probably never get round to it but there you go. Might be interesting and easyish Python exercise...

1935 Went to bar to pay, awkwardly left tip on bar as walked out. Smooth. Beer was 32, left 4 tip. Not even sure it was 500ml, fucking pricey. Walked. Sneaked email to parents as walked past Aqui Me Quedo. Looked at lots of restaurants seeking bargain, at El Colonial -  no, they don't seem to do the meat dishes on the menu so leaving.

1959 Fuck, got stuck in a cycle of walking and rejecting every restaurant. In the end forced myself to sit here at err El Gol de San Telmo cos the pizza+beer offers look tolerably priced if the menu otherwise offers nothing. Not exactly hungry but the cycle has left me feeling edgy. Not writing more now, not that there is much to write anyway.

Ah, overhearing waiter I do wonder if the standard non-pint beer glass size is 375ml. I will do some measurements and estimate next time anyway, though 375ml and 500ml are probably close when you're estimating the dimensions. I don't seem to warrant any attention here, but putting this down to my edgy mood rather than reality. Sat at shit table outside over doorway, The Cure playing from inside. Feels/Just Like Heaven?

2006 Bife de costillo is T-bone steak according to menu, tis what I had yday elsewhere. Moderately tempted but having quarter chicken with french fries, and pepsi light.

2042 Finally got bill (verbally). 73, so 80 with tip and change should be easy. Food OK but by no means amazing, still it was cheapish and was 500ml drink not 330ml. no, change makes it to be 63, doh, always struggle there. make it 70 then. goodish value.

2115 Back at hotel. Bought water but no peanuts at 25 Hrs next to hotel. Checked with guy on desk when picked up key, I can leave my bag here tomorrow. Going to just bum around for couple of hours now.

0217 FFS, finally going to bed. Tis OK, not really tired even now. Been surfing tho connection extremely ropy much of the time. Anyway, bed.
